Cape Town - Police have opened an inquest docket after the partially decomposed body of a male washed out between the rocks between 3rd and 4th beaches, Clifton, on Thursday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said: “SAPS divers were called to the scene and recovered the body from the rocks. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Ward 54 councillor Nicola Jowell said that the body was seen in the tidal zone on the beach by the Clifton CID foot patrollers and they immediately alerted the SAPS.
“With the very strong swells and high seas at the moment the body could have entered the water in many different parts of the coastline, which is in fact the most likely scenario.
“I also would like to recognise and thank the CID security patrollers who have handled this very traumatic situation very professionally,” Jowell added.
On Sunday, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) reported that the body of an infant washed up on Clifton 3rd Beach had been discovered.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said its emergency operations centre was alerted by a bystander after he had come across the infant’s body on the beach.
“NSRI Bakoven, NSRI Table Bay, a Clifton surf lifeguard, City of Cape Town Law Enforcement, Community Medics, Life Healthcare response paramedics, the SAPS and the Western Cape Government Health EMS all responded.
“On arrival on the scene, the unidentified decomposed body of an infant was secured on the beach for police detectives before being taken into the care of police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services. Police have opened an inquest docket and are investigating,” Lambinon said.
