Durban — Another police officer has been left critically injured following a shooting incident in Durban.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services director Garrith Jamieson said a policeman had been critically injured in a shooting incident in Stella Road just after 6pm on Sunday evening.
Jamieson said ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived at the scene to find a man had been critically injured in a shooting incident.
“He had sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body and was stabilised on the scene by advanced life-support paramedics, before being rushed through to a nearby Durban hospital for the urgent medical care that he required,” Jamieson said.
He said that at this stage the events leading up to the shooting were unknown. However, SAPS members were on the scene and would be investigating further.
Police have been approached for comment.
On Friday night, IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Dylan Meyrick said a shoot-out in Sundumbili had left a policeman in a critical condition and a suspect dead.
Meyrick said the SAPS and an IPSS Security Tactical Team had been chasing a stolen vehicle after they had tried to pull it over. The suspects opened fire on the SAPS members and the security guards.
“The shoot-out left one SAPS member critical and one suspect dead. The SAPS member was rushed privately to Sundumbili Clinic, (where) he is currently under the care of IPSS medical advanced life support,” Meyrick said.
Police had not commented by the time of publication.
