MORRISSEY’S debut novel has been nominated for a bad sex in fiction prize – for his descriptions of “bulbous salutations” and a “fiendishly loving wrestle”.
The former Smiths frontman, 56, was mocked when his novel List of the Lost was published by Penguin Classics – and it is under fire again for its bizarre sex scenes.
The Bad Sex Award was established by the Literary Review “to draw attention to poorly written, perfunctory or redundant passages of sexual description in modern fiction, and to discourage them”. Other descriptions by Morrissey include a “giggling snowball of full-figured copulation”.
The judges said it was the first time an author from the distinguished Penguin Classics has made it on to the shortlist and that he is “a very strong contender”.
The nominees also include Lord Ashcroft’s Call Me Dave, which features an allegation about David Cameron and a dead pig that reads: “The future PM inserted a private part of his anatomy into the animal’s mouth.”
The winner will be announced on December 1.
