South African actress Thuso Mbedu has been revealed as part of the cast of “Children of Blood and Bone.”
The Paramount Pictures movie is an adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel and is expected to open in cinemas on January 15, 2027.
Mbedu is part of the lead cast, which also features Hollywood big names such as Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, and Tosin Cole.
According to a report by Variety, Mbedu will portray Zelie, a young woman living in a fantasy African kingdom who embarks on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people by the ruthless King Saran.

Mbedu shared with her followers on Instagram pictures of her in character and revealed to her followers that she was gifted “Children of Blood and Bone” in 2019 and it was one of the best gifts she received.
She also revealed that she had boldly asked God to be the lead of the story and now she has the opportunity to do so.
“Before heading to Philly earlier last year I felt the most random need to go through old journals and there it was: a prayer point, a bold ask to God to be the lead of this amazing story 🙈 to sit here and draft this announcement is mind-boggling.
“To know that I have the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people as we tell this great story is truly humbling. I’m so excited. I’m so grateful,” she captioned the picture.”
Mbedu’s followers took to the comments and congratulated her on her achievement in bagging yet another Hollywood role.
