The well known sangoma Gogo Skhotheni and her estranged husband, Monde Shange, have announced the death of their two-year-old son, Monde Junior.
In a statement issued to the media, Gogo Skhotheni, real name Tumi Motsoeneng, the Motsoeneng and Shange families confirmed the passing of Monde Jr Shange.
“Monde Jr departed this life at 3pm on Monday, September 2nd, 2024, at Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital,” confirmed the statement.
The couple’s young child has been sick since birth and been in intensive care throughout his short life.
Monde Jr was born without the tube that transports food to the stomach, had many surgeries, and used a machine to eat.
“The families kindly request privacy as they navigate this deep and painful loss. We ask for your understanding and compassion in giving them the space they need during this difficult time of grieving.
“Psalm 23:4 reminds us, ‘Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me’.”
Last December, Gogo Skhotheni debuted a tattoo on her arm in honour of her son.
"His doctor, Dr Flack, is the best. She comes a long way with my son and she did her best."
"It has been a difficult journey for all of us as a family but life has to carry on. He was born without a tube that transports food to the stomach so he had major surgeries.
“Doctors tried to make sure he could eat, but they couldn’t so they ended up putting in a tube and he is using a machine to eat," she told TshisaLive at the time.
