Podcaster MacG is being hailed by netizens as the “interviewer of the year” while others are urging him to do better interviews.

Despite the social media chatter, each new episode of “Podcast and Chill with MacG”, alongside his co-hosts Sol Phenduka and Ghost Lady, captured the attention of listeners, leading to trending discussions online every week.

In 2024, MacG showcased his versatility by hosting a variety of guests from social media influencers and sex workers to politicians and musicians, thereby ensuring a diverse array of topics.

His unique interviewing style has kept fans eagerly awaiting each episode.

In July, the trio elevated the show’s profile by taking it to Los Angeles, where they interviewed international celebrities present at the BET Awards.

The latest episode, featuring Democratic Alliance (DA) federal chairperson Helen Zille, showcased MacG’s ability to blend serious political discourse with a light-hearted approach.

While some social media users argue that MacG could have done better. Others enjoyed the way he tackled pressing issues surrounding South Africa's current political climate while mixing his trademark humour during the interview.

Netizens have taken to social media to express their support, praising MacG for his fearless interviewing style, while others urged him to do better.

@ChrisExcel102 commented: “MacG is the interviewer we have in history of South Africa.”

@bonolo_bestie said: “MacG did exceptionally well considering his show isn't typically focused on politics. His approach is not about ‘Grilling’ his guests but engaging and flowing the conversation. Helen Zille, actually shared more than she has in previous political interviews Tbh.”

@NJames_LS said: “MacG needs to do better man. I love him and I get his easy going style but sometimes man... just sometimes...🤦🏽‍♂️ you can't be calling grown ups ‘dude’.”

Despite the criticisms, MacG's influence is undeniable.

Followers such as @kaybee3039 expressed hopes for continued success in the new year, remarking, “I'm glad MacG is trending, happy new year @podcastwithmacg a brilliant year, hope and pray for a more brilliant ne again next year. Goat🙏🏿.”

As the conversations surrounding his interviews continually evolve, MacG remains a formidable presence in the South African media sphere.
