Afro-pop band Malaika, best known for the hit song “Destiny”, originally consisted of Tshedi Mholo, Bongani Nchang and the late Jabulani Ndaba.

Ex-member Mholo and Nchang are now at odds with each other over the hit song “Destiny”.

In 2021, Mholo left the band and announced she would no longer do public performances under the banner of Malaika.

Mholo and Nchang were guests on “Podcast and Chill” with Mac G and Sol Phenduka to explain the root of their feud, with both sharing their sides of the story.

Nchang explained how the band Malaika began and how Mholo was brought in and the recording of the song “Destiny”.

Mholo explained her grievances with Nchang, which include her exclusion from the credits of “Destiny”, previous booking and management squabbles.

Nchang and music producer Godfrey Guffy Pilane are credited as writers on “Destiny”. Mholo explained that she felt she should be credited for her performance and the additions she added.

Earlier this year, Mholo accused Nchang of using her name to get gigs three years after she quit and performing their classic hits with new female vocalist Tsoakae Molipa without her consent.

Even before Mholo left the group in 2021, Malaika had moments of splitting up and performing solo and cracks within the band.

During the podcast, the two recalled their history and how they arrived to the point where they are, but there was no conclusion or resolution to the current issue.

Mholo has demanded that her vocals be removed on backing tracks used when Nchang is performing, which he says has been done and her voice is not on the tracks.

Malaika were the frontrunners of South Africa's Afropop scene during the 2000s. The group toured Australia in March 2008 with “Australian Idols” 2007 finalist Tarisai Vushe as the supporting act. They have won multiple awards and released four studio albums.
