The annual Spotify Wrapped list has unveiled a vibrant tapestry of South African musical talent, proving that the local scene is undoubtedly thriving.

With local music consumption skyrocketing by a remarkable 93 percent in 2024, South African music lovers are wholeheartedly embracing the sound of their nation.

This year's Wrapped list serves as a comprehensive reflection of the most adored artists, creators, and songs among Spotify subscribers.

Leading the charge are magnetic dance tracks that captivate the nation throughout the year, with amapiano solidifying its reign as the defining genre of 2024.

Artists such as Kabza De Small, TitoM, Uncle Waffles, and Mthandeni SK have emerged as the heartbeat of this flourishing scene, energising dance floors and playlists alike.

Once again, Mzansi music producer, De Small has claimed the title of the Most Streamed Local Artist in South Africa.

The self-proclaimed “King of Amapiano” continues to etch his name as a cultural icon, enjoying widespread acclaim not just locally but globally.

His album “Isimo” has been recognised as the Most Streamed Album in SA, whilst his captivating tracks filled multiple entries on the Most Streamed Songs in SA list, further cementing his artistic dominance in the world of music.

Joining De Small in the charts is Chris Brown with his album “11:11”, Kelvin Momo with “Kurhula”, Tyla with “Tyla” and SZA with “SOS”, which made up the rest of the Top 5 Most Streamed Albums.

De Small’s “Imithandazo”, TitoM’s “Tshwala Bam”, “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone, “Masithokoze” by DJ Stokie and “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar make up the Top 5 Most Streamed Songs in SA.

Drake, De Small, Kelvin Momo, Chris Brown, DJ Maphorisa, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Future, Travis Scott and J.Cole were the Top 10 Most Streamed Artists in SA.

Meanwhile, the competition among female artists continues to forge ahead.

While Taylor Swift reigns supreme as the Most Streamed Female Artist in South Africa, followed closely by Billie Eilish, SZA, Rihanna and Beyoncé, local talents Nkosazana Daughter and Babalwa M have firmly cemented their presence in the top ten.

In the rapidly growing world of podcasts, South African export, Trevor Noah remains a dominant figure.

His podcast “What Now? with Trevor Noah” has roped in the third spot for Most Streamed Podcasts in South Africa, trailing behind the chart-topping “Joe Rogan Experience” and “The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett”.

Other engaging listens include “Motivation Daily by Motiversity” and “Podcast and Chill with MacG”, both securing their positions within the top five.
