Skeem Saam viewers have seen Meikie Maputla being a good wife and nurturing her children from teenagers into two grown successful men, while also running a successful business, for the past 12 seasons.

In season 13 however, Meikie battles with empty nest syndrome as she says goodbye to Thabo, Mapitsi and her grandchild Pitsi who had been living with her.

Thabo and Mapitsi Maputla, played by Hungani Ndlovu and Mogau Motlhatswi, are ushering in a new chapter in the new season. Viewers have seen their transition from two naive teenagers who fell in love and became teenage parents to Pitsi (played by Lethabo Matsetela), to young adults who went on to get university qualifications and establish their careers.

Now a married couple in their new home, with a new bundle of joy, Baby Oratile, the couple will be faced with the new challenge of juggling their careers, running a household and raising a family without the help of Thabo’s parents, Meikie and John Maputla.

A new face has been introduced, Realeboha Khotle who will be replacing Lethabo Matsetela as Pitsi Maputla. The announcement was met with mixed feelings from viewers who felt like adjusting to a new face will be hard, while others expressed sadness that they will not be seeing a face with which they are familiar.

The show has also most recently celebrated three of its cast members bagging awards at the Royalty Soapie Awards that were held at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, on August 24. Harriet Manamela (Meikie Maputla), Lethabo Mekoa (Ntswaki) and Mahlatse Moropo (Mahlatsi Kunutu) won awards for their outstanding portrayals of the roles they play in Mzansi’s popular soapie, Skeem Saam.
