The family of upcoming musician Lizwi Wokuqala has appealed to the public for assistance with funds towards his funeral.
The KwaZulu-Natal-born artist died on July 24, along with popular artist Malome Vector from Lesotho and director Damos. They passed away on their way to a gig in the Free State.
The artist, whose real name was Lizwilenkosi Mtshali, was known as Lizwi Wokuqala. He was signed under Malome Vector's record label and was just starting out in the music industry, with plans to release an EP in August.
In a statement issued to media by VP of The Association of Independent Record Companies (Airco) Stanley Khoza, it was revealed that the young artist’s family was unable to bury him “due to funds, he was starting in the industry he had not yet made money, he had just gained popularity as a promising upcoming talent.”
“Any contribution / assistance will be highly appreciated. Planned day for the funeral is Sunday if all effort yields results. We are raising donations from any amount one can help with.
“We have a bank account for his mother. We just need to cover the expense for the coffin, the undertaker, sound and food. Estimated around R100 000. I plead with all of you to assist in resolving this challenge for the family.”

Another young artist, Puleng Phoofolo, also lost their life in the accident. The news of their passing has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with fans and colleagues paying tribute to how the young artists' lives were tragically cut short.
