Grammy-winning global music superstar Tyla is finally back home in South Africa ahead of her sold-out two-city tour.
Kicking things off, Tyla performed at an exclusive special performance in her hometown of Johannesburg, South Africa, in collaboration with Coke Studio and Spotify.
Local ‘Tygas,’ Tyla’s fans, were in for a full-on treat at the experience held at a venue in Sandton. From the moment one entered the venue, one was transported into a world where Tyla was the main focus.
Ahead of her performance, Tygas interacted with the different activities from the glitter tattoo stations, photo booths, music listening stations, nail stations and of course, the free Tyla merchandise tuck shop, all while listening to the hottest amapiano tracks courtesy of DJ Tshegu and promoter and urban culture curator – Thulani ‘Way’ Maduse as the hype master.
No event in the name of amapiano is ever complete without dancers and some of Joburg’s finest were seen on the dance floor.
Tyla finally took to the stage to a very eager crowd that included some of the country's most popular content creators; Chad Jones, Coachella Randy, top fashion designer Rich Mnisi and even retired top swimmer Tatjana Smith, who had an evening out with her husband Joel and his sister the recently single, Rachel Kolisi, who is a big Tyla fan judging by how she was dancing the night away.
Tyla’s intimate performance included several of her hits such as “Jump”, “Breathe on Me”, “ART”, “Truth or Dare”, and “No 1”. Tyla also performed for the first time live her newest single "Tears" which was created in collaboration with Coke Studio.
Her homecoming comes at a perfect time, fresh off the celebratory news that she made history with a record-breaking 52 weeks at number one on the Billboard Afrobeats chart and her debut self-titled album “Tyla”, is the most streamed album by a black female artist on Spotify in 2024, surpassing Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter”.
Tyla’s Coke Studio performance was a taste of all that her fans can expect at her sold-out two-city performances in Cape Town and Pretoria on December 5 and 7, 2024.
