London - You may adore your pet, but have you ever thought your pug was a little too wrinkly or your cat rather plumper than he ought to be?

A surprising number of people do and for some owners the latest thing is to have photographs of their beloved pet digitally retouched.

We’ve all got used to the idea of celebrities being airbrushed for magazines, but pets are a new thing.

The trend started in America. Typically owners ask for their pet to be made to look thinner, but some of the requests are more specific. If an animal has one eye darker than the other, the technician can make the colours more even. Some owners of hairless Sphynx cats, which tend to have wrinkly skins, ask for the creases to be smoothed or filled in altogether.

In the UK, Whiskers Pet Photography in Hampshire offers a pet photo retouching service. Though they don’t get asked much to do cosmetic retouching, they do a brisk business in removing leads and collars to make pets look more natural.

Or if your horse appears to have a telegraph pole sticking up from her back, they will remove it. She will look as if she is in unspoilt countryside. - Daily Mail
