There’s nothing more delightful than indulging in a bowl of creamy ice cream on a hot summer’s day.

However, ice cream can sometimes be expensive but with a bit of patience you can make your own at home and you don’t need a fancy ice cream maker to do so.

Here’s what you will need to make a simple vanilla ice cream.

You can add your own additional ingredients to add flavour and texture to your ice cream.

Ingredients

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1 cup sweetened condensed milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of salt (optional)

Optional add-ins: Customise your ice cream with chocolate chips, fruit, nuts, or cookie pieces as desired.

Method

Whip the cream. Use a handheld mixer or whisk to whip the mixture until thickened and soft peaks form. This usually takes about 3-5 minutes with an electric mixer or 8-10 minutes by hand.

Be careful not to overwhip, as you want to maintain a creamy texture.

In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the heavy whipping cream and the sweetened condensed milk using a spatula ensuring the airy texture remains intact for that perfect creaminess.

Add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, along with any additional flavourings or mix-ins you desire at this stage.

Pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container, smoothing the top, and cover it tightly.

Place your container in the freezer for at least 4-6 hours or until firm. For optimal results, freeze overnight.

Serve

When ready to indulge, allow it to sit for a few minutes to soften slightly for easier scooping.
