A lot of women know the numerous side effects of taking birth control such as weight gain, depression and even suicidal ideation/suicidal thoughts. However, there are rare ones, like causing blindness.

A blind content creator, Chelsey Painter Davis, went viral on social media after she revealed that what caused her blindness was being on birth control.

“Birth control made me blind, here’s how: When I was 18-years-old about to get married. So my physician recommended that I start birth control pills. I did not want to but she made me feel pressured.

“I started getting massive headaches. My PCP (primary care physician) told me it was just stress and I tried to get a massage. The pain continued and my vision started to blur,” she said.

As she was talking about this traumatic experience, she was casually doing household chores like laundry, packing and more.

By the time she found the help that she needed, she said it was already too late. She added that the synthetic hormones caused a pseudo tumour celebri.

“This is a build-up of cerebrospinal fluid that squished my optic nerves to death. I will never see again.”

She said since nobody told her about the hidden dangers of birth control, she will spend the rest of her life teaching others about them.

Davis captioned the post: “No one told me about the hidden dangers of birth control, so now I’ll spend my life telling others. For more risks of birth control, follow @blindmomlife where I’ll be sharing questions to ask your doctor, thoughts to consider, and advice from my experience.”
