Wearing a condom is an effective way to protect yourself from STIs as well as unwanted pregnancies, so it’s vital to know how to use them correctly.

In general, the man is the one who puts on the condom, but sex worker Lucy Huxley says she prefers to do it herself because some men don’t do it correctly.

She took to TikTok to demonstrate how to correctly put on a condom and shares a common mistake some men make.

Huxley shares that one of the most common mistakes that men make when putting on a condom is that they flip it over after putting it on the wrong way around.

“As you know, if you’ve done this before it can be hard to tell which way is up,” she says as she demonstrates on a spray bottle.

Often men simply flip the condom around after they realise it’s the wrong way.

She explains why this is a bad idea.

Once you’ve put the condom on it touches the tip of the penis which sometimes already has fluid on it.

Then, when you flip it around and put it on the correct way, that fluid then comes into contact with the vagina.

“That fluid can transmit diseases and it can even have sperm in it,” she explains.

“So when you take the protection out of the package look at it carefully so that you know which way is up and if you make the mistake of putting it on the wrong way, take it off and get a new one. Don’t flip it around and use it anyway,” she concludes.

Her video reached over four million viewers and it seems not enough people seemed to know this.

“They should teach this at school! I don't know why I was never taught this,” commented one person.

“I feel like this is such common sense but I didn’t even realize,” said another person.
