Tupperware may be about to go out of business after filing for bankruptcy in the US, but fear not, as the same enthusiasm that once surrounded the brand has resurfaced with the Stanley Cup.

The popular Stanley Cups seem to have taken the world by storm, but what is the craze about?

Whether it’s the original Stanley Cup or a dupe, owning this insulated tumbler seems to be the “in thing.”

Stanley is a brand of food and beverage containers that has been around since 1913. They first introduced their Adventure Quencher tumbler, now known as the Stanley Cup, in 2016.

Sales were not doing well, so the company stopped restocking and marketing the cup in 2019.

The company then collaborated with a blog run by women, known as “Buy Guide,” to sell 5,000 “Quenchers.” The company was back in business and resumed production in different colours as they saw an increase in annual sales.

Since the success of influencer marketing for the cups, they decided to predominantly sell them to women.

What really made the Stanley Cup popular and created hype among young people was a viral TikTok video in 2023, where a Stanley Cup survived a fire in a burnt-down car and still had ice cubes inside.

The video was shared by Danielle who is the owner of the car.

This video left people astonished and impressed, making them want to own the cup that survived a fire along with its plastic straw.

“Ok, I guess I’ll get a Stanley now,” says Desirae Arias on TikTok.

Another viral video shared by Wardrobewinter shows a burnt-down house with everything in it destroyed, except the Stanley Cup, which survived yet another fire with its straw still intact.

@nowthis Another Stanley cup survives. When someone's entire home burned down in November 2023, she was shocked to find her Stanley cup still standing and intact. Several days after the incident, TikTok user @wardrodewinter showed a second Stanley cup that also made it through mostly unscathed. The videos quickly went viral after being posted online. You might remember the now famous Stanley cup that survived a car fire, also in November 2023. After that video went viral, Stanley responded and ended up buying the woman a new car. #WatchThis #stanleycup #housefire ♬ original sound - nowthis

Price

For the South African market, price varies from R1,300 to R1,380 depending on where you shop for it. The pricing may be steep due to its durability and performance, whether hot or cold, the cup will deliver making it worth your money.

It is safe to say the cup is loved for its size, durability, and ability to keep ice water cool, preventing the ice from melting for hours throughout the day.
