If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that sneakers are everything.

Once reserved for gym sessions or Sunday strolls, they’ve transformed into the ultimate fashion statement.

Over the years, sneakers have taken on a life of their own, moving from athletic wear to a full-blown cultural phenomenon that’s influencing the fashion industry on all levels.

Let’s face it: we all know that one person who’s always rocking the latest sneaker drop. Celebrities are the ultimate trendsetters and they’ve been partnering with some of the biggest brands and designers to create exclusive kicks.

Whether you’re running errands or hitting up the hottest nightclub, sneakers are the go-to footwear.

And it’s no surprise that some of the biggest names in music and fashion have made their mark in the sneaker world.

Kanye West has completely changed the game with his Yeezy brand, transforming sneakers into a bold fashion statement. With futuristic designs and minimalist flair, Yeezys are no longer just shoes - they are a lifestyle.

Rihanna also stepped in, bringing her Fenty vibe to the sneaker scene. Her designs blend high fashion with street swagger, much like her own signature style.

Then there's Pharrell Williams, a true cultural force. His long-running collaboration with adidas has created iconic pieces like the “Human Race” collection.

Bold colours, expressive designs, and a sense of individuality are at the core of his sneakers.

In 2023, Williams took his influence even further, becoming the first Black American Men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton. He’s brought his unique street style, music, and pop culture into the luxury world, redefining high fashion.

His first Louis Vuitton collection had sneakerheads lining up, with luxe takes on classic designs like monogrammed Timberlands and revamped LV Trainers, honouring the late Virgil Abloh’s legacy.

In January 2023, Williams teased a new addition to the Louis Vuitton line: the ButterSoft sneaker.

The internet immediately drew comparisons to the classic Nike Cortez, released in 1972.

Both sneakers share a sleek silhouette, wide toe overlay, and minimalistic midsole, but Williams version is more bulbous and bold, offering a modern twist on the retro favourite.

The ButterSoft sneaker, showcased on Williams Instagram, comes in 47 colour options. The rainbow hues bring back memories of his Adidas Supercolor collection, which featured 50 shades.

There’s even a nod to his Billionaire Boys Club days, with similar colour schemes making their way into these new Louis Vuitton kicks.

Featuring the iconic monogram print and classic LV logo, these sneakers are guaranteed to turn heads. With a price tag to match, they are the definition of luxury.

The ButterSoft sneaker will be available in multiple colour ways, with leather uppers and touches of brown at the toe and heel.

Though the release details are still a mystery, sneakerheads are waiting for their chance to snag a pair.

In recognition of his role as Men's Creative Director at Louis Vuitton, Williams was named GQ's Designer of the Year in 2024.
