Seoul, South Korea - North Korea says about 30 people died in flooding due to heavy rains late last month.

The official Korean Central News Agency reported the deaths in a short dispatch from Pyongyang late on Friday.

KCNA also said more than 15 800 people were homeless, thousands of homes were destroyed and farm land was heavily damaged.

KCNA said on Monday “dozens of people” had died, were hurt or went missing due to a typhoon and heavy rains from late June to mid-July. The latest report was more specific.

The news agency also has reported on North Korea's own relief efforts and thanked China for offering sympathy over the flooding.
