New York - Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry is criticising the Obama administration's policy on Israel.

In a speech scheduled for delivery on Tuesday, the Texas governor plans to speak out against efforts by the Palestinian Authority to seek formal recognition by the United Nations.

Perry says President Barack Obama has demanded unfair concessions from Israel that have emboldened the Palestinians. He said the Palestinian Authority must negotiate statehood directly with Israel and not seek a unilateral end-run around the Jewish state.

The US has promised to veto the Palestinian effort in the UN Security Council and has been pressing countries around the world to block the resolution.

But Perry says Obama's demand that Israel cease building settlements in the West Bank has slowed the peace process and muddied US standing in the region. - Sapa-AP
