Two South Africans died when a helicopter they were in crashed into a mountain in Indonesia, the department of international relations and co-operation said on Thursday.

“We can confirm that the two, who were part of an Australian mining company, were onboard when the helicopter crashed,” spokesman Clayson Monyela said..

He said that their families had been notified.

The helicopter, which was carrying eight other people, including two Australians, and six Indonesians lost contact with authorities minutes after takeoff on Wednesday, Indonesian police and airport officials told the Associated Press.

It was later found after it had crashed into a mountain in North Sulawesi province, Lucky Pondaag, an airport spokesman reportedly said. - Sapa
