The Volkswagen T-Cross, which is the brand’s best-selling SUV in South Africa, has been given a refresh.

The upgraded model, which made its local debut at the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami this week, is now on sale.

Prices start at R462,200 for the 1.0 TSI Life, with the Style version coming in at R501,300 and the R-Line topping the pile R533,100.

All are powered by the 85kW and 200Nm version of Volkswagen’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbopetrol engine, paired exclusively with DSG dual-clutch transmission across the board.

This means the 1.0 TSI 70kW and 1.5 TSI 110kW engine options fall away.

So what’s new for 2024?

Externally we see a fresh front bumper design with new patterns in the upper and lower grille. LED headlights are now standard on the base model, while the Style and R-Line versions gain brand new IQ.Light Matrix headlights with 24 LEDs per module.

At the back, the new T-Cross is distinguished by LED taillights with a redesigned pattern.

Volkswagen has also added three new exterior colours to the mix, in the form of Clear Blue Metallic, Grape Yellow and Kings Red Metallic.

Inside the 2024 Volkswagen T-Cross sports a brand new dashboard design, whose materials are now of a higher quality according to VWSA. It features a new ‘free-standing’ touchscreen and digital instrumentation is now standard across the range.

Speaking of which, and in line with VW’s latest model naming strategy, the previous Comfortline and Highline model grades make way for Life and Style derivatives, while the R-Line name carries over at the top of the range.

Standard features in the Life version include 16-inch alloy wheels, 8.0-inch touchsreen, cruise control, electric folding mirrors with projection lighting, front and rear park assist and wireless phone charger.

The Style comes with 17-inch alloys, illuminated grille strip, 10-inch Digital Cockpit Pro touchscreen, sports seats and dual-zone climate control.

The R-Line gains a unique exterior design package as well as ArtVelour R-Line seats, stainless steel pedals and driving profile selection.

Numerous driver assist gadgets are available to those willing to play with the optional extras list, including the Travel Assist package that comes with items like Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, Cornering Assist, Lane Assist and Emergency Assist.
