A 74-year-old man Free State man, Diphapang Mosia, was found dead in Makeneng Village, Qwaqwa after he was reported missing by his family.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said Mosia went missing on November 23, 2024.

He was found on 25 November by a livestock owner who was walking near Mabate Road looking for his cattle.

Mophiring said Mosia was found lying on the road covered with a black cloth, his neck and hands were tied with a wire.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the elderly person is from Tseseng and was indeed reported as missing. His family positively identified him as their father,'' said Mophiring.

Mophiring said Mosia left home with two people who asked him for a lift and that's when he went missing together with his silver car.

Investigations led police to two people who were brought to the police station for interrogation and were subsequently arrested.

The suspects, aged 18 and 35, were charged with murder and appeared before the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Police also found personal belongings of the deceased; however, his vehicle is still to be traced.

Mophiring said the accused were expected back in court on December 5, 2024 for formal bail application.

"The investigation still continues, and the arrest of the third suspect is imminent," he said.

"We are very proud of our highly skilled and dedicated members on the ground who ensure that perpetrators are brought to book and justice is served. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family," said the provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane.
