A 45-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment this week after he was found guilty of raping his teenage biological daughter.
According to police the incident took place on May 28, 2023.
“According to the evidence presented in court the victim was at home sleeping in her parents bedroom when her father returned and sexually attacked her before raping her,” said police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
The father’s identity has not been revealed to protect the identity of the victim.
While this heinous act was committed by the father, the girl’s mother was in the kitchen, making coffee for them.
Ledwaba said on the same day, the victim overheard the father requesting that her younger sister touch his private parts.
“The victim alerted her mother about the rape as she was concerned that the accused (father) would rape the younger sister too as he had been sexually abusing her since she was 12,” Ledwaba said.
The victim’s mother reported the incident to authorities.
The docket was moved to the Mokopane Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), and Investigating Officer Sergeant Ramolokoana Leshaba was appointed to conduct the inquiry.
The man was arrested on May 31, 2023 and denied bail until the finalisation of the trial.
The accused was also deemed unfit to carry a firearm and listed on the National Register of Sexual Offenders.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Limpopo, praised the sentence and the Investigating Officer’s diligent efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
