A fugitive wanted for 17 serious violent crimes was shot dead in a police operation in Limpopo after opening fire on officers.

The 36-year-old suspect, linked to multiple murders, attempted murders, carjackings, and business robberies, was tracked to a hideout in Ga-Komape village, Moletji, outside Seshego. On Tuesday, February 11, police moved in.

The operation, led by the Mopani Tracking Team and Seshego police, followed intelligence that placed the suspect in the area, said police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

"On arrival at the identified address, team members acted swiftly, and the suspect came out from one room, firing gunshots towards the police, whereby they retaliated, and the suspect was fatally shot," said Ledwaba.

Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the officers for their work in bringing down the suspect.

The suspect had been involved in a series of serious and violent crimes reported in the Hlanganani policing area, between 2022 and 2025. A firearm and a vehicle used by the suspect were seized.

Police have opened an inquest case at Seshego police station, and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) was informed and visited the scene.

Investigations are ongoing.
