Limpopo police cracked down on serious crimes, which resulted in the arrest of 407 suspects.

“The suspects are facing charges including murder, rape, robberies, house break-ins, assaults, dealing in drugs, unlawful possession of firearms, and contravention of the Immigration Act,” said Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

The crack-down led to a recovery and seizure of an array of illegal items during a week-long operation.

The operation ran from Monday, October 7, to Sunday, October 13.

The Operation Shanela, involved a series of roadblocks, stop-and-search initiatives, and efforts to locate wanted individuals, it was conducted by the members from various SA Police Service units, the SA National Defence Force, and community groups like the Community in Blue.

During the operation, the police recovered an array of illegal items: four firearms, 34 rounds of ammunition, one blasting explosive, over 8,600 copper cables, 125 counterfeit goods, and 19 dangerous weapons.

Additionally, three vehicles reported stolen or robbed were seized, along with a large cache of alcohol and various drugs, including dagga, nyaope, and crystal meth.

The provincial commissioner of police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the dedication of officers in their mission to enhance public safety.

Other suspects have already begun appearing in various courts across the province.
