Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for suspects who allegedly killed a farmer and kidnapped his wife during a robbery in Hendrina.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said the incident happened on Thursday night, November 28, 2024.
Mdhluli said the alarm was raised after a neighbour became concerned after receiving a call from the victim's employer indicating that the farmer had not reported to work that day.
"The neighbour went to check on the victim and discovered a disturbing scene. Police were immediately notified, and upon their arrival, they found the male victim under a canopy with no signs of life. An older man was also found inside a vehicle on the property," he said.
He added that a robbery was committed, and the suspects allegedly stole various items including mobile phones before fleeing the scene.
Meanwhile, the victim's wife who had allegedly been kidnapped, was dropped off at Embalenhle.
Mdhluli said four mobile phones were recovered and it's believed that they had been stolen during the robbery.
He said police are investigating a case of robbery, kidnapping, rape and murder.
"The suspects are still at large, and the police have initiated an investigation into this tragic incident," added Mdhluli.
