Gauteng police have taken three men in for questioning following the kidnapping and murder of a Gauteng mother and daughter.

The bodies of Hester Flemming, 52, and her mother Cecilia Johanna Flemming, 82, were found inside an old mine shaft hole on Monday, October 28,2024.

The two women were reportedly kidnapped following a farm attack and robbery between Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident took place at a farm in Eikenhof, about 20 minutes from Sandton.

Private investigator Mike Bolhuis from Specialised Security Services said since the women were reported missing every lead was pursued and countless hours dedicated to the case.

“It is with deep sadness that we inform the public the women were found deceased,” said Bolhuis on Monday afternoon.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) search and rescue recovered the bodies from inside the mine shaft.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said cases of murder has been opened at De Deur Police Station.

“One suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of some of the items that were taken during the house robbery.

“He appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Monday, 28 October 2024 and has been remanded in custody.”

He said three more men have been taken in for questioning by police on the house robbery and kidnapping case.
