A Western Cape teacher, charged with multiple counts of rape, is expected to apply for bail.

The matter will be heard in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, the National Prosecuting Authority said.

Western Cape NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the 26-year-old high school teacher faces four counts of rape and causing a child to witness a sexual act.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the man was arrested on August 26 on allegations of rape.

He made his first appearance in court on August 28.

In a similar incident, a Durban soccer coach and bible studies teacher was arrested and charged with four counts of rape.

A part-time Durban soccer coach and Bible studies teacher has been arrested in connection with the rape of four minor boys.

The 57-year-old man was arrested by Verulam SAPS on August 13, 2024.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the man was arrested in connection on allegations he raped four boys in Waterloo.

“Reports indicate that the suspect was assaulted by the community before the police were called.”

Netshiunda said the suspect was transported to hospital and remained in hospital under police guard.

Private security company Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said they were called to the scene after the community had apprehended the man, assaulted him and threatened to castrate him.
