Here are just four full series to bookmark:

Sex and the City Season 1-6

In 1998, four glamorous New York women on the prowl – Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) – slinked their way onto the screen and into our obsessions, vision boards, and style icon status, in Sex and the City.

This intimate, gossipy, have-it-all series – based on columnist Candace Bushnell’s book of the same name – highlighted discussions around professional women’s pleasure, sexual independence and friendships; and won seven Emmys, eight Golden Globes and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Euphoria Season 1-2

Every generation gets its scandalous series that claims to expose the secret lives of high school students - from Skins, Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl to Sam Levinson’s Euphoria, which inspired TikTok’s "forgetting I go to Euphoria High" meme thanks to its wild fashion choices.

Euphoria led topical discussions around drug abuse and sobriety, trauma, gender identity, sexual orientation, abuse, bullying, blackmail, sexual violence, codependency and self-destructive behaviour. The series won 28 awards, including (then 18-year-old) Zendaya’s 2020 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as teenage addict Rue.

Game of Thrones Season 1-8

This epic fantasy series, based on George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books, became a global obsession that defined must-see TV in the 2010s and won 272 awards including 47 Emmys.

Set in the fictitious realm of Westeros, the series follows the political manoeuvring for the Iron Throne (hence the Game of Thrones) between rival claimants from seven kingdoms. The series has dragons and zombies, witty scripts, bloody battles, and the most gorgeous fantasy costumes ever made for the small screen.

Also watch: The Iron Throne was originally held by the Targaryen dynasty. House of the Dragon Season 1-2 tells the ongoing story of how they came to lose it to the Baratheons at the start of Game of Thrones.

The Sopranos Season 1-6

This crime drama series, which centres on the inner workings of one New Jersey Mafia family and won 21 Emmys, is seen to be the starting point of the “Golden Age” of television. Season 1 has a 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Empire hailing it as “The definitive chronicle of The Best Show Ever.” And a masterful blend of comedy and drama had The Writers Guild of America naming The Sopranos “the best-written television series of all time”.

Mob boss Tony Soprano (the late James Galndolfini) became the blueprint of complex anti-hero protagonists. The Sopranos explores his personal psychology – as seen in his therapy sessions in which he starts to combat the anxiety and stress of his secret life; from assassinations, to his family legacy, a looming FBI investigation, his infidelity, and his roles as husband, father and son.

Also watch: 2024 marked the 25th anniversary of The Sopranos and in late January 2025, Showmax will air the documentary series Wise Guy: David Chase And The Sopranos.
