Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Dr Nasiphi Moya has announced her mayoral committee made up of 10 councillors representative diverse political parties including the African National Congress (ANC), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), GOOD, and her political home ActionSA.

Moya told a briefing in Tshwane that as executive mayor, she will ensure that this committee is held accountable for its collective duty to serve the residents of the capital city.

She said each member will be expected to perform their duties with diligence and integrity, upholding the highest ethical standards.

“Together, we will prioritise the following areas for revitalization: safety and security - enhancing public safety so that residents feel secure in their communities; economic development and job creation - revitalising economic hubs, supporting business growth, creating job opportunities through programmes such as the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), and advancing rural agricultural initiatives; infrastructure investment and inclusive service delivery - investing in essential infrastructure, including water, sewage, roads, transport, and housing, to improve the quality of life for all residents,” said Moya.

She said her other priorities include energy and financial sustainability through addressing the electricity needs of residents while working closely with Eskom to address the R6.8 billion debt which has been inherited; good governance and responsive public services through strengthening financial and audit management, ensuring responsive and efficient services, and enhancing engagement through professional contact centres.

“We thank the leadership of political parties for putting their best forwards. Colleagues, we have made a promise that we will serve all the residents of Tshwane. May we fulfil this commitment to serve all residents equally,” said Moya.

“Fellow residents of Tshwane, this the a diverse and politically sensitive mayoral committee, and I am confident that it is well-equipped to lead our city forward. In the coming days, we will hold our first official meeting, where we will develop a collective plan of action to fix our city, driven by the belief that our residents deserve better. I look forward to sharing our detailed governance agenda with you in the weeks to come.”

Last week, IOL reported that ActionSA’s Dr Nasiphi Moya has officially been elected as the new mayor of the City of Tshwane. In what did not seem as a surprise, the Democratic Alliance (DA) fielded its councillor Cilliers Brink for the mayoral seat, again.
