Durban - A man who was taken in for questioning in connection with a fire at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Pietermaritzburg campus has been released.

Police spokeswoman Brigadier Sally de Beer said: “We released him. We felt there was not enough evidence to charge him and take him to court.”

The man was arrested shortly after a blaze at the finance administration building was doused in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The campus has had a number of arson attacks during the ongoing #FeesMustFall protests.

Unconfirmed reports said that the man had been arrested after being identified on video footage. De Beer said she could not comment on what prompted police to take him in for questioning.
