Companies and individuals on Thursday joined the world in commemorating Mandela Day under the theme, “It’s Still in your Hands to Combat Poverty and Inequality“.

The South African National Biodiversity held its commemoration at the National Botanical Garden in Pretoria. There were various public engagement activities to commemorate this special day.

The Botshilu Private Hospital together with its stakeholders donated much needed supplies to its BotshiluCares initiative. There were visits to these facilities to spread care, love, and support to those in need. Ampath Laboratory also joined in and donated essential items such as urns, a bar fridge for medication, and a kettle.

The SA National Parks was in Soweto, where it donated sanitary items to learners at Phefeni Secondary School in Orlando West.

The Executive Mayor of Tshwane Cilliers Brink and Deputy Mayor Nasiphi Moya were also on the road, supporting a primary school in Atteridgeville and organisations caring for homeless and underprivileged persons.

Moya was at The Life Changing Projects Homeless Shelter in Akasia for a clean-up campaign, while Brink visited Thohoyandou Primary School in Saulsville to donate shoes, as well as cleaning up and painting.

Moya completed her programme by handing over a wheelchair to soccer legend Lucas Moripe in Atteridgeville, with the mayor donating blanket to PEN, an organisation supporting homeless persons in the CBD.
