The excitement is building ahead of the start of the new T20 cricket tournament in South Africa, the Mzansi Super League.

The event will kick off at Newlands on Friday night between Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans (7pm start).

The other big game in the Western Cape takes place on Sunday, when Paarl Rocks will face the Spartans as well at Boland Park in Paarl (3.30pm).

The Paarl Rocks are still awaiting Proteas star Faf du Plessis from Australia to lead them, but in his absence, home-grown Boland man Henry Davids – who hails from Pniel – will be the Paarl Rocks captain for the first two matches of the Mzansi Super League.

“Henry is an experienced captain and knows the local players very well. Davids is a key batsman for the Paarl Rocks, and his knowledge of the local conditions could prove to be invaluable,” said Paarl Rocks head coach Adrian Birrell.

Head Coach, Adrian Birrell is happy with the team's progress after 2 wins in 2 over the @CT_Blitz last night and the night before but says there's still some work to be done. #PaarlRocks #MSLT20 pic.twitter.com/SwdY6rZOh0
