DURBAN – Moses Mabhida Stadium manager, Vusi Mazibuko, insist that they don’t buy rights to stage the PSL cup finals and they will continue to bid for more.

Mabhida will host yet another cup final at the end of the month, when SuperSport United and Cape Town City battle it out for R8 million in their quest to lift the MTN8 title.

The PSL came under fire for taking the final to Mabhida as many felt that the game should have been taken to Port Elizabeth or Polokwane.

Mazibuko, said they are not fazed by the criticism levelled at them.

“Our plan is to host two finals per season and two Bafana matches,“ Mazibuko said. “We’ve worked hard to be where we are. We can’t be punished for doing well. We will continue to bid for more finals. We always draft our plan before the season starts.

“We don’t disappoint with numbers in Durban. Our people always respond when the cup finals are at our stadium. It doesn’t matter who is playing, they always come in their numbers. Last season we had more than 20 000 spectators when we hosted Cape Town City and SuperSport United. I don’t think there’s another stadium that could have generated such a crowd. We want to be the home of mega events,” Mazibuko explained.

The tickets for the game between Cape Town City and SuperSport are already on sale.

“As I mentioned we have good support base and secondly we plan ahead and thirdly we are fully commercialised. Our location gives us the advantage. It is easy to get to Durban.

Mabhida has hosted more MTN8 finals than any other venue in the country. They will be staging their fifth MTN8 final in eight years.

“Coming to Durban is more like a holiday. On top of that, teams love to come to Durban. SuperSport and City were comfortable to come and play here,” Mazibuko concluded.
