The Blitzboks got their weekend off to a perfect start by thrashing Russia 31-0 in their first match of the London leg of the World Sevens series on Saturday.

The Springbok Sevens side dominated throughout the match and ran in five tries, with Branco du Preez adding three conversions.

Four of those tries came in the first half as the Blitzboks cruised to a 24-0 lead at the break, and Zain Davids scored early in the second half to take their try tally to five.

The Blitzboks next face Canada at 1.58 pm (SA time), and they'll wrap up their Day One proceedings against Samoa at 5.04 pm.

The knockout rounds will be played on Sunday.
