Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has urged against Relebohile Mokokeng making a move to Spanish giants Barcelona.

The 20-year-old Orlando Pirates starlet has been linked with Barcelona B, who have made inquiries about his abilities. According to reports, Scottish side Glasgow Rangers have also entered into the fray, and are keeping tabs on the talented forward.

However, Broos feels that neither club is good for Mofokeng’s development.

“Rele can play in Europe, and I said it in the first year when he came into the Bafana team because immediately there was a lot of interest in him,” Hugo Broos said according to FARPost.

“I said to him: ‘Look, just stay one year more [at Pirates]. You play [CAF] Champions League with Pirates, and you will have experience of the PSL as well. It is too soon to go now’. So he made a good decision to stay at Pirates.

Broos added that Mofokeng still needed more development before completing a move to Barcelona, saying it was too soon to move there now.

“… Everybody likes Mofokeng and he is a nice guy and has a lot of talent. But if he joins Barcelona now, he is just Mofokeng and will play for the second team. But when you talk about Rangers, what is Rele going to do in the Scottish league? He will not play there even with the talent he has. The football in that league is not ideal for Rele.”

According to Broos, Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Portugal were the perfect leagues for Mofokeng to improve as a footballer.
