According to a sensational report, Mamelodi Sundowns forward Thembinkosi Lorch could see out the season playing in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs.

According to Sunday World, Kaizer Chiefs are busy finalising talks with Sundowns over a deal that would see Lorch, an Orlando Pirates legend, move to Naturena. Lorch's link with Chiefs comes on the week that the club are set to face their Soweto rivals in a league clash.

Lorch moved to Sundowns from Pirates at the beginning of last year after being convinced to do so by Rulani Mokwena. However, his time at Chloorkop has not been an entirely happy one. Mokwena was eventually sacked by the club, reportedly after falling out with sporting director Fleming Berg.

Mokwena's insistence in signing Lorch is said to have been one of the reasons that led to the breakdown in that relationship.

Since Mokwena's departure, Lorch has struggled for regular game time, and the 31-year-old has featured just seven times in all competitions so far this season.

Should Lorch move to Chiefs, he will be expected to reignite the team's Betway Premiership campaign. Nasreddine Nabi's team have often dominated teams, but their struggles to find the back of the net have seen them drop points in games they should have won.

If Lorch moves, he will become one of the few players who have walked the same path between the two Soweto rivals. In years gone by, Marc Batchelor, Jimmy Tau, Gert Schalkwyk, Collins Mbesuma, Siphelele Mthembu, Lehlohonolo Majoro, William Twala, Stanton Fredricks, Marks Maponyane, Pollen Ndlanya, and Jabu Mahlangu have played in the colours of both clubs.

Chiefs are currently fifth in the Betway Premiership after 14 games, while second-place Pirates trail league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by six points.
