With Monnapule Saleng not likely to play a part in the Soweto Derby for Orlando Pirates against Kaizer Chiefs, it has prompted Bucs legend Jerry Sikhosana to weigh in on the matter.

The much-anticipated clash takes place at FNB Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3.30pm.

Saleng has been strangely missing from the Pirates team in recent weeks.

The player was last in action for Pirates on December 7 when they hosted Al Ahly, in a Caf Champions League match at Orlando Stadium which ended in a goalless draw.

The 26-year-old has not been reported as injured, and is believed to have not featured for Pirates due to undisclosed personal reasons.

Other quality players

“The last derby was so good for a single player that single-handedly overshadowed the opposition, which is Monnapule Saleng, who is no longer participating in most of the games,” Jerry Sikhosana told Hollywoodbets Sports.

“So, for me, I don’t think there would be any missing of him because there are quality players that have emerged from the Orlando Pirates stable.”

According to a Soccer Laduma source though, Saleng is still available for selection.

“He is a Pirates player in like any player who is fit and ready he will always be available for selection. He will be back with the team soon to continue from where he left off with his contribution,” the source said.

Lending credence to the fact that Pirates may field some players that have not featured recently, is that they did not add any new names to their squad in the January transfer window.

Pirates are through to the quarterfinals of the Caf Champions League and will also have a an eye on the Nedbank Cup.
