Gospel legend Dr Rebecca Malope recently faced an unfortunate incident at Zanele Mbokazi’s funeral, which quickly went viral.

During her performance, a video captured Malope tripping and falling on stage, sparking concern and conversation across social media.

Malope later addressed the issue in an interview with TshisaLIVE, explaining that her choice of footwear played a role in the mishap.

"I couldn't wear sneakers to the funeral. I had to show respect at Zanele's funeral, so I wore high heels, which caused me to trip on stage," she shared.

She admitted that the fall was an embarrassing moment, adding that if Mbokazi had been alive, she probably would have laughed at the situation.

The fall left Malope with a bruised knee and a twisted ankle. "The heels made me unstable even standing up," Malope said.

"Since Saturday, I've been receiving text messages from friends and family checking up on me. I think I'm getting old and I'm no longer that energetic," she added.

To add to her dismay, Malope’s performance was interrupted when the music suddenly stopped.

In the video circulating online, you can see Malope asking what had gone wrong. What followed was even more shocking - Lindelani, a prominent figure in the gospel music scene, excused her from the stage in a manner many found disrespectful.

This sparked outrage among fans, who have took to social media to express their disappointment.

@AneleMda took to X: “Lindelani Mkhize, what a disgusting man. Should this was another man, he wouldn't dare show such a disrespect on stage in full view of the people. What would have gone wrong (if) he had simply let sis Rebecca Malope finish at least the verse of the song? Sies, weak egoistic man.”

“Dr Rebecca Malope Queen of Gospel...whether you Switched off to her,” @MalefeP wrote.
