“Muvhango” fans were angered by SABC’s decision to remove the long-standing telenovela off air earlier this month, without any warning.

They took to social media platforms to vent and it looks like the SABC listened.

Now, just a few weeks later, they have revealed that the Tshivenda soapie, which has been on air since 1997, will be returning with new logo, opening sequence, characters and more.

Legendary veteran actress Leleti Khumalo will be joining the show as Dr Nonhlanhla Ximba.

The press statement read: “Dr Ximba's enigmatic presence as a construction mogul is set to disrupt the familiar landscape of ‘Muvhango’, paving the way for unprecedented intrigue and groundbreaking storytelling.”

As “Muvhango” ushers viewers into a brand-new universe, it promises to offer conflict between innocence and purity while pushing in on the complexity of human passion and interaction, skilfully tapping into modern sensibilities and timeless themes.

Duma Ndlovu, the executive producer of “Muvhango”, said: “‘Muvhango Lives On’ represents not just a new beginning, but a celebration of the show's legacy.

“We are dedicated to staying true to our roots while embracing change, and we are excited to present our audience with a ‘Muvhango’ that reflects the rich diversity and compelling narratives of modern South Africa.”

Jacqui Hlongwane, acting head of Channel at SABC2, added: “As the public broadcaster, SABC2 is thrilled to support ‘Muvhango’ in its exciting transformation.

“The show has long been a pillar of our programming, and we eagerly anticipate the infusion of fresh energy and captivating storytelling that ‘Muvhango’ promises to bring to our viewers.”
