Lebogang Sehoana, the estranged wife of businessman and co-founder of Drip Footwear Lekau Sehoana, has finally broken her silence.

In a lengthy interview with “The Safe Space Chats Podcast with Perseverance Maremeni”, the mother of one opened up about the alleged abuse she suffered from her then-husband.

She said everything he had said about her on social media, painting her as a gold dagger, was untrue.

She wanted a fair divorce settlement since she had funded Drip Footwear, including buying the first business car for the brand.

“During our marriage, he was unemployed so I was the one who was funding the businesses. We did multiple businesses. We were selling eggs and chickens, we did a shisanyama and I was funding those.

“ Eventually, we ventured into a sneakers brand. I was a breadwinner for my siblings and at home, to a point where I had financial strain and we had to move to my mom’s house …

“That’s when we started the sneakers brand. Me being at work and the husband working on the ground, he was the face of the business,” she said.

However, things started going south when Lekau staring spending more time on the business and neglected their marriage. At some point, he would come home late but Lebogang said the biggest deal-breaker was when he started doing rituals.

“It got worse because he would come home intoxicated and participate in rituals that we were not used to. Coming home and slaughtering chickens at 3am. It was stuff that I was not used to and when I spoke about it, that’s when the abuse escalated.”

She said that whenever the brand received bad reviews, Lekau would take his frustrations out on her and that’s when he started abusing her physically.

Eventually, they agreed that he should move out of their home because it was not healthy for their child to witness that.

They also agreed that Lekau would go to therapy but he continued to come to the house at odd hours, until Lebogang changed locks. Since she would no longer open for him,

Lekau stopped paying for the house and maintenance for their child. That was when Lebohang filed for divorce.

She said that at first, they had agreed on the settlement and when it had been time to finalise everything, Lekau switched up on her.

“He would tell me: ‘I am very powerful, I have connections, I control social media, I have politicians and celebrities in my payroll, so just take whatever I am giving you otherwise I will destroy you.

“Stop being greedy and take whatever, otherwise I’m doing you a favour, I can just leave you as you are,’” said Lebogang.

Eventually, their families intervened. When Lakau had to attend the family meetings to put the divorce to bed, Lebogang said he would come up with excuses, hence they had not finalised their divorce..

Earlier this week, Lekau said Lebogang was keeping her from seeing their son and he could not wait for the divorce to be finalised.
