Durban — The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Sipho Hlomuka, has expressed his satisfaction with the successful administration of the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examinations as they draw to a close on Thursday, November 28.
In the media release, the department stated that the province has once again proven its educational prowess, with a remarkable total of 190 452 candidates, 172 433 full-time, and 18 019 part-time students leading the nation in candidate numbers for “this critical assessment.”
These examinations, which commenced on October 21, not only tested the knowledge of the pupils but also highlighted the commitment of educators throughout the province. In the lead-up to the exams, many schools conducted winter tuition programmes focused on effective curriculum coverage, ensuring that both teachers and students were well-prepared, the department said.
The completion of these programmes by August 30 has been credited as part of the foundation for the examinations' smooth execution.
“From 1 December, the marking process will begin with a dedicated team of 9 390 markers stationed across 32 centres. The marking is slated to conclude by 10 December 2024, after which the centres will officially close on 18 December 2024 following the return of completed scripts.
“As the MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, it is my honour and privilege to bid farewell to all our matriculants, after having written their final school leaving examination,“ said Hlomuka.
MEC Hlomuka noted the critical importance of maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
"We are pleased to announce that the 2024 National Senior Certificate Examination was conducted without any irregularities or leaks, maintaining its credibility and integrity."
He reiterated the departmental commitment to ensuring a disruption-free process for the Class of 2024.
