A weight-loss journey as a teen turned a Durban man into a fitness fanatic and world bodybuilding champion.

Yeskiel Naraindath, 31, has his sights on retaining the Mr International BodyBuilding Fitness Federation (IBFF) title.

The Mr International BodyBuilding Fitness Federation (IBFF) competition is set to take place in October in Gauteng.

Naraindath represented the country last year in Italy when he won. To qualify at last year's IBFF, he won the KwaZulu-Natal IBFF title, IBFF World Africa Cup and IBFF Universe.

As a reigning defending champion, Naraindath qualifies to compete again but will have to go through the gruelling process once more.

“There are no shortcuts. Entering this competition again means having to go through the same process of training, eating right and making sure everything I do to achieve my goal of winning again is on point,” he said.

Naraindath, a personal trainer from Musgrave, is no stranger to hard work, as he started his weight-loss journey as a teenager.

“Having also struggled with weight issues as a teenager, I understand every client’s frustration with continuously trying to get fit and healthy. I am able to relate with them on a grassroots level. I made a decision to make lifestyle changes over a period of time that enabled me to be at this stage of my life,” said Naraindath.

He wants to educate people on how to achieve a balanced lifestyle. This year he will showcase his talents in his homeground, South Africa, when the competition takes place on October 26 at Midrand Conference Centre.

“Representing my federation and country in 2023 on the world stage was truly a dream come true. Bringing home the title, not only meant a personal achievement for me but also showed the world that South Africa has some of the strongest athletes.

“I chose to compete again on this platform to once again showcase our talents, encourage new athletes that anything is possible with passion, discipline, drive and determination. I want South Africa to back its athletes in this field,” he said.

After winning the title in 2023, Naraindath was appointed IBFF KZN development manager.

“I have worked to create awareness of the federation and put a team together that will compete on the international stage this year. I hope I have been a role model for future generations. I have encouraged youth from different walks of life to understand the value of discipline and determination to always improve yourself,” said Naraindath.

He hopes to continue growing within the IBFF, as Naraindath is currently in the amateur division but hopes to make the pro division soon.
