Durban - American model and social media influencer Elyse Cizek, arguably one of South African comedian Trevor Noah’s biggest fans, says she “cried hard” when he announced that he would be leaving The Daily Show.

Cizek – of social media platform TikTok fame – has made known her intentions in wanting to date Noah and said she was crushed when it was reported that he and pop star Dua Lipa were spotted cosying up to each other.

“Honestly, I cried so hard (when I heard he was leaving The Daily Show). I got that news 10 minutes after finding out he was ‘dating’ Dua Lipa. I’ll miss him on the show, but I’m so excited for whatever he does next,’’ she said.

Cizek won the hearts of South Africans when she asked them to help hook her up with Noah. Many encouraged her to learn how to cook traditional meals as a way of attracting Noah’s attention, and she followed the suggestion.

She even considered coming to the country when she heard Noah would be performing here next year.

Noah announced to audiences on Thursday that he would be leaving The Daily Show and focusing on his world tour.

In a special message to his viewers, Noah said his dominant emotion was gratitude.

“The journey has been wild. I just want to say thank you for the amazing seven years.”

He explained how in the beginning most people had been a bit sceptical about him.

He also mentioned how people had been unsure about the concept for the show at first, but over the years it had gained momentum globally.

“I just find myself filled with gratitude, and this is something that I never expected. Thinking about the time, everything we’ve gone through, including the Trump presidency and the pandemic, I realised that my time was up.”

“In the most beautiful way, I have loved hosting this show. It has been one of my greatest challenges, joys, and I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh. We have laughed and cried together, but after seven years I feel like it is time.”

Noah said he wanted to explore other adventures such as travelling to different continents.

“I miss learning other languages, going out to other countries, and putting out shows,” he added.

He reassured his fans that he was not disappearing.

On Friday, he shared a video on his Instagram page of fans shouting his name in Toronto in Canada. The post was captioned: “Wow! What an amazing 1st night Toronto! Thank you to everyone that packed out @scotiabankarena tonight!! Can’t wait to do it again tomorrow night. #Toronto #Canada #BackToAbnormalWorldTour”.
