Genesis All Black, Johannesburg’s premiere urban festival, recalls its vibrant 10-year journey of creating inclusive, electrifying spaces that unite music lovers from all walks of life.
This event, a beloved fixture in the South African nightlife scene, has flourished over the years, bringing together a diverse array of local and international talent to create unforgettable experiences for music lovers.
Thulani Dandala, who leads events for Until Until, reflected on the significance of this milestone.
“Today is quite a special day because Until Until is 11 years old. Genesis All Black was the second brand that we built, and it is 10 years old this year. It’s a rewarding moment for us,” he remarked, underscoring the significance that the event holds not only for the organisers but also for the attendees who have made it a reality over the years.
Genesis All Black was conceived to break norms and deliver a unique nightclub experience, aligning with the high-energy, electronic house music that epitomises Johannesburg’s club scene.
Dandala expressed excitement about hosting this year’s festivities at Truth, a venue celebrating its 25th anniversary, solidifying the event’s status as a rite of passage in the local entertainment landscape.
The collaboration with Jack and Coke, marking their second official event together, has added a new dynamic to the celebration.
“It’s been an amazing ride so far. Jack and Coke is a bold brand trying to make its mark in the night-time energy scene. This partnership is truly a match made in heaven,” Dandala explained, highlighting the synergy and alignment of vision between the two brands.
Reflecting on the event's journey, he continued: “When we held the first Genesis, we knew it was the beginning of something bigger than just kids throwing a party in their home. It pushed us to evolve and refine our approach, creating a marked space where people can escape.”
One of the hallmarks of Genesis All Black has been its commitment to inclusivity and safety. “We pride ourselves on creating an environment where everyone feels welcome,” said Dandala, acknowledging the significant queer community that has consistently participated in their events.
“We have created safe spaces that resonate with authenticity.”
Internationally acclaimed DJs Major League, Desiree, and DJ Kent, as well as Nomuzi ‘Moozlie’ Mabena, were among the renowned stars who made the celebration memorable.
