Lawyers representing “Panga” Pastor Paseka “Mboro” Motsoeneng expressed concern and worry about how the case is being handled.
The legal team cried foul that their client’s rights are being compromised while he pays them about R100 000 per appearance.
The team complained about what they labelled “delay tactics” which are frustrating.
Advocate MoAfrika wa Maila said they were in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court last week and the case was postponed to Monday at 8am, but that did not happen.
“We came here very early; the client has been here, we consulted. We don’t know which court the matter will take place in that’s why you see us addressing media in the corridors. We know very well when justice delayed is justice denied. We are worried about our client’s rights being compromised by the administration. We would appreciated if this matter is attended to as a matter of urgency,” said Maila.
He further said: “A bail application in its nature is an urgent application. We would appreciate if our clients case is attended to with urgency. Here we are talking about the right to freedom of movement, we are talking about someone’s rights being at stake.”
Maila said he did not want to appear as a legal practitioner who was attacking the institution.
“The judiciary must be respected and honoured as such. We are having a crisis at this stage. There is nothing that is going well.
“We went to the Office of the Prosecutor handling this matter and asked him what was happening. He tells us he has other matters (and) he will see this later. This matter is not getting the priority it is supposed to be getting. We are worried,” said Maila.
The legal team threatened to escalate the matter to the High Court.
Asked how Motsoeneng is doing since he has been in jail since last month, Maila said he was in a jovial mood.
Outside the court, members of Incredible Happenings Church were dancing, singing and praying for his release.
