Police have discovered six badly decomposed bodies of women at a panel beating building in the Johannesburg CBD. The bodies were found on Sunday when police were called to investigate a foul smell coming from the building.
Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said that after finding the body of the first woman inside the building police were led to an alley outside where rubbish bins were kept and discovered the other five bodies.
Police arrested a 21-year-old man at his home in connection with the crime.
A forensic investigation would be needed to identify the women and determine how long ago died.
“We cannot at this stage ascertain that the women were involved in sex work. It is, however, one of the angles that police will follow in their investigations. As the police were coving the scene, there were reports that there had been two or three alleged sex workers who have gone missing,” Muridili said.
The area around the M2 double-decker highway in the CBD is known to frequented by sex workers.
This is a developing story.
