TICKETS are selling like hot cakes for the weekend’s clash between the Soweto giants and historic arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in their second encounter in just over a week.

For the two blood rivals it can be expected to be a fierce fight on the field at FNB Stadium when the reigning league champions Pirates attempt to repeat last week’s victory over Chiefs.

The Amakhosi, who recently beat English side Tottenham Hotspur, were expected to sweat it out in an attempt to reverse Pirates’ win and grab back the title of Soweto kings as well as be the first to lift the inaugural Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday.

Those hoping to be part of the more than 85 000-strong crowd had better hurry, as 62 000 tickets were already sold by midday yesterday.

Carling Black Label marketing manager Shawn Katz said the response had been “awesome” this week.

The debut of the Carling Black Label Cup was expected to be somewhat different from the normal Soweto derbies, thanks to an innovative and exciting “be the coach” campaign, through which fans have a chance to choose their favourite team’s starting line-up and substitutes.

Katz said more than 10 million selections had been received. He said fans would be able to use unique sms lines to choose substitutes live during the match.

Meanwhile, two lucky fans participating in the “be the coach” campaign, one each from Chiefs and Pirates, are set to win R1 million each. Kick-off is at 3pm.
