Two security guards accused of shooting dead a taxi driver in a fit of road rage in Soweto appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court yesterday, police said.

Warrant Officer Mpho Matshidisho said Oupa Zulu, 57, and Buti Ramatho, 25, were expected to bring a bail application on July 8.

They were arrested on Sunday after local residents gave police information, including the licence plate of the men’s car.

Taxi driver Zakhele Tshabalala, 39, allegedly cut off the security company’s van near Mdlalose Street in Protea Glen on Saturday evening.

It is believed the guards stopped the van, got out and walked towards the window of the Toyota Quantum.

Tshabalala was shot in the chest and head and died on the scene.
