HE TERRORISED Soweto residents for months, breaking into houses and businesses, and robbing them.

Often, the gun-toting and trigger-happy man would strike fear among residents by shooting randomly as he walked about.

And those who dared stand in his way often paid with their lives, it has been claimed.

Police, acting on a tip-off from the community, pounced on a suspect, Xolani “Chester” Hleza, on Monday.

The 23-year-old was arrested at his friend’s house in Emndeni.

“He had two guns at all times. He was a sharpshooter and was feared in the community,” said police spokesman Kay Makhubela Makhubela.

Hleza appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of attempted murder, armed robbery, pointing a firearm and discharging of a firearm in a public.
